The chapter entitled “The vital role of aquatic food for transforming food systems” deals with “blue food” – the one produced in the ocean, rivers, and lakes – for food security and sovereignty and in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in different regions of Brazil and world-wide.

"This collection results from the contributions presented at the symposium promoted by the University of São Paulo and makes the texts of the presentations available with open online access to the entire society, expressing its responsibility to contribute, through debate, reflection and proposition of public policies to improve the quality of life, health and healthy feeding of the population. This initiative is also aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly with goal 2: “Hunger – End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote Sustainable Agriculture".
